Following our 2022 launch, the Aspen Africa Initiative in Nairobi started strong as the first African member of the Aspen International Partner Network. We resolved to equip leaders in Africa and around the world in two ways. First is mindset; spaces and tools to improve critical thinking, a cosmopolitan mindset, and ultimately smarter conversations.
The second is conversation. Using Aspen–style, moderated, text-based formats – dialogues, seminars, fellowships, gatherings – we convene, consolidate, and communicate, provoking, furthering, and improving action in the real world.
Thanks to our dedicated team and partners, we secured funding and partnerships to deliver impactful conversations on topics ranging from China’s growing influence and the gender pay gap to GM foods, and corruption. We hosted our first Practice & Policy Lab on ‘The Future of Journalism’ and our first Socrates Seminar on ‘One World in Tech: Technology, Humanity and Society.’ In 2024-25, we will deepen our work by galvanizing diverse thought leaders, creatives, scholars, and members of the public around a single mission – driving change through dialogue, leadership, and action to help solve the greatest challenges of our time.
