Sports and Society Program

The Sports & Society Program convenes leaders, fosters dialogue, and inspires solutions that help sport serve the public interest. Since 2011, the program has provided a venue where thought leadership and breakthrough strategies can be developed on a range of opportunities, from building healthy communities through sports to rethinking the model for college athlete pay. The program is an idea factory, an independent resource to explore policies, practices and potential partnerships that may address the greatest challenges at the intersection of sports and society. Through structured, balanced dialogue at events informed by the best research, it connects the silos from across the disjointed sports landscape and beyond, providing the opportunity to find new energy and common ground in the pursuit of solutions.

Socrates Program

The Aspen Institute Socrates Program provides a forum for leaders from various professions to convene and explore contemporary issues through expert-moderated dialogue. This collaborative endeavour encourages participants to contribute their understanding of and reactions to carefully selected readings, with the guidance of moderators who are experts in their fields. The seminars provide stimulating dialogue, values-based introspection, and dynamic debate, enhancing participants’ leadership capabilities. Socrates also provides the opportunity for participants to enter into a diverse professional network, and into the broader range of the Aspen Institute’s programs.
